As you know we’re recognised primarily for our artificial rock work, and so were delighted to create this fantastic water grotto at Center Parcs, Elveden
As always with a job like this, the challenge is to create a realistic effect, one that takes the visitor off to another place and really makes them feel as though they were in a natural rock cave.
We created the rock work using our traditional formula of high density fire retardant polystyrene, along with stainless steel and galvanised mesh, sand and cement render, which we sculpted to create the exact rock face we required. We had decided that the grotto would need a subterranean water worn rock and included in this were stalactites, stalagmites & fossils.
One of the biggest challenges of the job was the complexity of the ceiling. Here we had to consider the weight bearing suspension of the rock in a chlorinated atmosphere, whilst ensuring that we did not affect the lighting.
As you can see from the images the final grotto is a wonderful addition to Elveden’s pool.
